Discussion question 2 How can you improve your communication with your classmates, family members, teachers, etc. using verbal and non-verbal communication?  In order to improve our communication skills and become effective communicators towards people, we must learn how to listen attentively. Improving our listening skills is essential because it helps us understand messages and feedbacks from these people, and it also helps us to exercise appropriateness, the use of language that is applicable to the nature or context of the event. Next, I must learn how to use simple and precise words in delivering the message in order to directly express my thoughts and emotion clearly. Here, I must also remember to consider my audience, so that I can prevent myself from giving discriminatory remarks. Discussion question 1 Differentiate VERBAL and NON-VERBAL communication Verbal communication is when the speaker uses words in order to convey their message. This type of communication is vital and effective because it makes it possible to spread the message faster while still being accurate. Thus, verbal communication helps you save valuable time. Examples of using verbal communication are conferences, presentations, gossips, and casual conversations. The first two examples are types of formal communication while the latter part are examples of informal communication. On the other hand, nonverbal communication refers to the use of body movements without requiring any spoken words to pass messages. There are three main types of speeches according to their purpose: informative/expository, persuasive, and entertainment. How does communication breakdown affect our relationships with other people? Communication breakdowns can negatively affect our relationships greatly, as these barriers hinder effective exchanges of ideas with one another. Thus, these breakdowns result to miscommunication and misinterpretation of ideas processed within the conversation. In the video, it was shown that the couple were experiencing psychological barriers because of Vincent's fear of rejection from his former girlfriend.
