MY REFLECTION Based on the topic, I have learned that mini-survey may help me in:     I learned that conducting the mini-survey helped me to learn and understand more about the relationships of Filipinos, in a micro perspective. I was able to look at the similarities and differences of different Filipino relationships with in terms of family, community, school, and other agencies. For example, in conducting the survey, we can find out how the children in strict Filipino households interact with their parents as opposed to those children who grew up in an easygoing household. Conducting a mini-survey in an academic perspective, it can help us design the rest of our design paper, assess the feasibility of a project, get advice and reactions from beneficiaries, and evaluate projects. Conducting a mini-survey instead of a real survey is just as effective, but with only fifteen to thirty questions given to a small sample of twenty-five to seventy people, and which it only care...

WEEK 1 - Discussion 3

Discussion question 3 Answer the question in exactly 5 sentences only. Recall an instance where you engaged in a conversation with a topic that you are not comfortable with? What is the topic and how did you manage it?      There was a time where I had a conversation with my mother about body-shaming this certain celebrity. She was ranting about how they can just use their money to lose weight and stay "fit", and yet they choose not to take surgeries and whatnot. As a person who was also body-shamed for years, it was extremely uncomfortable for me since it felt like I was also being attacked, and that our physical "flaws" are still not accepted by society despite having a stable lifestyle and mental health. I was scared to confront her since I know that she still won't side with me, yet I remembered that it is still important to educate her about it. Although I was unable to defend my arguments with her, I knew that trying to be more open about topics like this ...

Give a specific problem that you encountered during a conversation and how did you address it?      Whenever I want to be get to know someone new, I always strike up small talk in order to keep the conversation going. However, I always feel nervous as I want the person to like me, which causes me to run out of things to say. There was this one time back in 8th grade where I wanted to be friends with a guy in my class since he seemed cool and that he seats next to me in class. At first, we were talking a lot, but then our conversation died down as I wasn't able to come up with a new topic and it became awkward. Despite my fear of being judged, I decided to become more confident and conquered that fear by talking to him again, and after that interaction, we became close friends.

WEEK 1 - Discussion 1

Discussion question 1 Answer the question in EXACTLY 5 sentences only. How do you usually start a conversation?      Starting a conversation usually depends on who, where, and why are we talking to that person. Thus, before engaging in a conversation, I always try to consider the environment and body language of the person I am going to talk to, so that I can avoid future communication breakdowns. I will also try to feel the atmosphere during the conversation, so that I can refrain from giving the wrong impression towards my peer. I always keep in mind that I should be cautious with my choice of words, as the person might not understand me during our conversion, such as using jargons and slang that they are not really aware of. These things will not only help me properly start a conversation, but also avoid miscommunications and insensitivity.
